Further, this article will examine some of the tools financial institutions have made available to combat cyber-initiated wire fraud and how those tools fit within the legal framework. The focus of this article is on providing an overview of the legal framework applicable to claims brought against financial institutions by customers relating to unauthorized wire transfers. With the dramatic rise in cyber-initiated wire fraud, financial institutions will inevitably be confronted with pre-litigation demands and lawsuits from customers relating to authorized and unauthorized transfers. Transfers resulting from the second will be referred to as “authorized”. For the purposes of this article, wire transfers resulting from the first category of fraud will be referred to as “unauthorized”. The second type of fraud involves the use of email, sent to the victim by the fraudster from a spoofed or hacked account, containing wire instructions with erroneous account information. One type of fraud involves the use of phishing, social engineering, malware and/or hacking to gain access to the victim’s online bank account in order to directly initiate an unauthorized wire transfer with the victim’s financial institution. Suffice it to say, cyber-initiate wire fraud is a real and immediate threat to financial institutions and their customers.Īlthough the perpetrators of cyber-initiated wire fraud employ an arsenal of tools that are constantly evolving, the schemes generally fall into one of two categories. IC3 data includes fraud that is occurring in all 50 states and 131 countries. Victims of this type of fraud include individuals and businesses of all sizes and across all industries. Between October 2013 and December 2016 there were 22,292 reported cases of fraud by domestic victims. Data collected by the Internet Crime Complaint Center (“IC3”) reflects a 2,370% increase in reported fraud losses between January 2015 and December 2016. According to a May 2017 Public Service Announcement by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), cyber-initiated wire fraud is not just on the rise-it is exploding. ![]()

If you give a holiday gift to an employee in the form of cash or a cash equivalent like a gift card or gift certificate, this is taxable income and should be included in the employee’s W-2, and your business will receive a deduction for this. What makes employee gifts tax deductible? Let’s look at the types of gifts you may give to employees and discuss whether or not they are tax-deductible for your business. As you know when you meet with your CPA for tax planning each year, nothing is quite as simple as it seems when it comes to your taxes. In simple terms, the IRS defines a gift as anything of value transferred from one person or entity to another without receiving anything of equal or greater value in return. In some incubators, you can control the humidity further by adjusting ventilation controls. Most manual humidity incubators have a tray or container that needs filling and an additional area for the extra humidity required during the hatch. Again, follow the incubator manufacturer’s guide. Water will often need to be added to the reservoir to provide sufficient humidity. If you don’t have these, then set the vents half-way. If the ventilation is adjustable, set it according to the recommendation in the instructions. When you are ready to incubate some eggs, power-up your incubator and allow it to run for several hours, all incubators need time to heat up and settle. Vibrations from fans within the incubator or other equipment nearby can cause problems with embryo development, so locate your incubator on a solid surface. A typical operating humidity for incubators is between 40 and 70% relative humidity. If so, you can increase the humidity by having trays of water in the room, provided there is not too much ventilation to change the air. Central heating or air conditioning can dry the air, or you may live in an arid region of the world. The air in the room shouldn’t be too dry. Some garden sheds can easily swing between 5 and 25☌ in 24 hours, which is not suitable for most incubators. You can use a cheap electronic temperature meter that records maximum and minimum temperatures to check your incubator location. Do not put your incubator near a radiator or window where the sun can shine in and avoid drafty areas or where there is air conditioning blowing.įluctuations in temperature are the most common cause of problems. ![]() Incubators are not particularly well insulated, so avoid fluctuations in operating temperature. ![]() Most incubators suggest room temperature between 18 and 22☌, although some are quite specific and will not perform well outside of this range, especially in colder climates. Locate your incubator in a room or insulated building outside where the temperature is reasonably constant. The best solution I have found is to use an electronic thermometer/hygrometer with an external sensor, or wireless Switchbot wireless sensor, taking measurements at the same height as the eggs’ centre. Measuring humidity is also a challenge in still-air incubators because it is relative to the temperature, so your wet and dry bulb readings (or another hygrometer) must be sitting at the same height as the embryos.įinally, another problem is the stratification changes the moment you remove the lid, and you’ll end up taking incorrect readings! The height of the thermometer can be adjusted and read through the window at the top. My ‘ Brinsea Hatchmaker‘ incubator recommends 39.2° at the TOP of the eggs for hens eggs – this should be the correct incubation temperature (in this case, 37.5°) at the centre of the egg. We need to be careful where we take readings of temperature and humidity. Still-air incubators provide the correct incubation temperature where the embryo sits (the centre of the egg). Sometimes you will notice this happening in buildings with high ceilings, and you may also see heating systems blow hot air out of vents downwards into a room to overcome this stratification. The science behind this is that cooler, denser air sinks, and warmer, thinner air rises, creating this gradient of air temperatures. In other words, there are layers of air with a temperature gradient between the heater element and the base of the incubator. It’s important to note that the temperature and humidity levels should be monitored regularly and adjusted if necessary to ensure optimal incubation conditions for the eggs.Still-air incubators have a heating element at the top, and thermal stratification occurs inside the incubator. ![]() For example, the temperature for incubating snake eggs should be between 82-86☏ with a humidity of 50-60%, while the temperature for incubating turtle eggs should be around 82-88☏ with a humidity of 70-80%. While WOL is a BIOS level behavior that shouldn’t be affected by software or hardware shutdown, we cannot rule out the possibility that something has changed and a bug has occurred. They will be testing this specific behavior use case to see if they can reproduce it. That being said, I brought it to the attention of the QA team that you were experiencing this WOL issue specifically regarding software shutdown from the Web UI on the maintenance page. Rather, our QA team and Development teams utilize a basic Python script to trigger the command, which is tested on weekly cycles throughout firmware testing and development. WOL does work with Pearl-2 to date with all of our direct testing, however no pre-baked software applications are being used to issue these tests and commands. I have spoken to the manager of the QA team regarding your testing and your questions and his team will be touching base with me as soon as possible regarding testing. I can certainly understand your frustration given that Pearl-2 or Pearl Mini are not behaving as you would expect them to. I’m really sorry to see that you and your team are continuing to face issues with WOL with the Pearl family. It is annoying enough that a Pearl cannot shut down time-controlled via the software (only manually via WEB interface), but then it should at least be possible to wake it up the Pearl again without having to walk across the whole campus to the respective location !! We have already checked various programs here in our network laboratory at our university, … which always wake up various systems or PCs, but ust * not * any of our PEARL-2 or PEARL-Mini. Then there are no “excuses” possible, that any “unknown network” might be the reason why it does not work … we now do have only a 1: 1 LAN cable connection. The WOL features announced does not work, although the devices have an active LAN interface (with 10 Mbps) after being switched off, which is also quit common for WOL in such a special stand by mode.
